This Dessert is the Apple of my Eye

We’re baaaaaack! Hope everyone had a great and relaxing Thanksgiving break!! Personally I ate about 3 times my body weight in food and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you didn’t slip into a food coma then you didn’t do Thanksgiving right.

This week I wanted to try another dessert! This recipe actually was inspired by a side quest I recently completed in Breath of the Wild, called ‘The Apple of My Eye’. While exploring the Rito village, I came across a woman named Juney who asked me to bring a baked apple to her. It was really easy to make this recipe for her, because you can find apples everywhere in breath of the wild! Anywhere there’s trees, there’s apples. I have about 150 of them just sitting in my inventory. You can eat a bunch of apples to quickly replenish health, and they are easy to add to a lot of different recipes.

Not only was this a super easy quest to complete, but I also got the idea to make this as my recipe for the week! In the game, making a baked apple is as easy as dropping an apple next to, but not directly on, an open flame and allowing it to bake. This got me thinking: how can I spice this up to make it a delicious dessert in real life?

I started off with just a regular apple that I cored, but made sure to not completely puncture through on the bottom:

Next, I made a mixture of about one tablespoon softened butter, about half a tablespoon brown sugar, and a dash of vanilla extract. I mixed these all together, then spooned it into the apple, making sure to cover the whole inside. I popped it into the oven at in a dish with some water at the bottom at 350 degrees, then just waited! I wasn’t following nay sort of recipe; I just winged it, so I wasn’t sure how it was going to come out. Fingers crossed!!

I checked back on the apple after about 30 minutes, and it seemed to be done! It was a nice brown color, and I could easily stick a fork in the side. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but the butter has all pooled up in the middle of the apple; I guess I thought the utter and sugar mixture would soak into the apple more, but oh well. It smelled soooooo good and I couldn’t wait to try it!

Here’s the final product! It doesn’t look fancy (to be honest, it doesn’t even look that appetizing), but I promise it tasted wayyyy better than it looked. Clearly I need to work on my food photography skills. But this really did come out delicious! I sprinkled cinnamon over the apple when it came out, and it gave it the perfect touch. The apple was just the right level of soft; soft enough to easily eat it with a fork, but not to the point of it being mushy. This is a perfect dessert if you’re looking for a relatively healthy and easy alternative to some other super sugary and unhealthy foods.

What do you guys think? Would you try this? Anyone have food photography tips?? 😂 I feel like I’m so used to something going wrong with my recipes, that I’m pleasantly surprised that this one came out so nicely. As always, thanks for reading, and I’ll see you back here next week for another recipe!

This looks so good I’m literally salivating! Don’t sweat the “food photography”, the taste is the most important part!! I like the simplicity of this recipe and I seriously might go home and do this tonight! Desserts are always a crowd pleaser!

I like how this recipe was inspired by the game, but you made it completely your own, with your own personal touches. This looks delicious, I can literally smell this picture and it is something I will definitely want to try. Awesome job!

  3. It’s so cool how you took the idea of “apples” from the game and made your own recipe with it! I have not tried that game yet, but I have played “Animal Crossing” where apples were literally one of the main source of food for my character. I’m glad that the recipe ended up working well for you, eating something horrible sucks! When it comes to food photography, it depends on the plate, table, placing of the food, angle and lighting! Sometimes, I make the effort to capture the food real nice, but not always! Most of the time, I can’t wait to eat it, so I just dig in!

This recipe looks so good and simple. I really think I’m going to try it at home. I haven’t tried the game but I’m really thinking about buying it and now I’m at an advantage with recipes for my character

Looks straight fire. Definitely something I want to try. This post also is inspiring me to start playing Zelda again. I took a long break from it because of school work and other games coming out, but I think come winter break I’m going to grind it.

  6. Even though I don’t like fruit, this actually looks pretty good. I can already tell by simply looking at it that its soft and sweet haha. Looking at a finished creation makes me want to make something too, maybe even try harder foods like croissants or cheesecakes. Can’t wait to see what kind of dishes you’ll make with the holidays coming soon. Great post!

Awesome post, I recently bought a Nintendo Switch so I now need to get breath of the will and play through to find all of these food items! Super simple, and the photos serves it justice. I love how I have a way of relating to this blog now and I can experience it first hand. Nice job!
